As the days cool down, I'm transitioning my wardrobe to fall. Over the years, I've gotten to the point where most of my clothing stays the same year-round, but I do have a small box of really heavy sweaters and boots that stays on the shelf for the summer (a Minnesota necessity for this thin-blooded girl!).
I've been loving bright colors lately and my favorite Punjammies pants made by the International Princess Project get alot of use- I wear them weekly! Though I sometimes wear them for work-at-home days (they're so comfortable), I wear them to run errands and hop around town, too!
Since these pants are BRIGHT, loose and flowy, I make sure to dress myself strategically to avoid looking like I'm out in my pajamas. For me, learning how to style bright, bold patterns in a way that works for my personal style aesthetic has been a big part of my ethical style journey. While there are now many amazing companies selling neutral-colored basics, much of the the fair trade clothing out there is made with fabrics that are block-printed or dyed with multicolored designs.
My tips for toning down a bright, crazy piece of clothing:
- Choose neutral pieces to make up the rest of your look.
- Use a tailored piece to add a more polished look- I used a collared shirt rather than a loose tee to avoid a pajama-type look with my loose pants.
-Keep it minimal. Don't wear lots of jewelry or carry a brightly-colored bag!
How would you style a bright, patterned piece of clothing?
